Sent with Purpose
Living where God has placed you
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. - John 1:6
As I walked into the room for the meeting, I was a little taken aback by the sheer size. The conference was one I was attending for work, but I did not know anyone at the event. People were gathering in small groups, conversations were already underway, and I suddenly felt very aware that I was alone.
Soon, someone looked at me and asked, “What is your name, and who are you here with?”
It’s a simple question, but in that moment it felt significant. Who are you here with? Was I representing someone? Did I belong to a particular group? Was I connected?
In John 1:6, we read a simple but profound statement: There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. Before we read about what John the Baptist did, we are told who he was and where he was sent from. His identity and his mission were tied to God.
John did not appear by accident. He was sent.
In many ways, the same is true for us. We may not be standing in the wilderness proclaiming repentance, but we are not placed where we are by chance. The homes we live in, the workplaces we enter, the communities we move through — none of it is random.
We are sent.
Sometimes we feel small in large rooms. Sometimes we feel unknown in crowded places. But our presence is not insignificant. We carry the name of Christ. We represent Him in our conversations, our actions, and our character.
The question “Who are you here with?” takes on new meaning when we remember we belong to Him. We are not alone. We are not self-appointed. We are sent by God into the spaces we occupy.
If you feel unnoticed or uncertain about your purpose today, remember this simple truth: you are where you are for a reason. Like John, you have been sent. Your life is not accidental. Where has God placed you right now, and how might He be sending you into that space with purpose?
