He does not change
The One Constant in a Temporary World
For this God is our God for ever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death. Psalm 48:14
Very few things in life last forever. We are used to things that we buy breaking or going bad soon after we buy them. It seems the longer I live, the more temporary things in this life seem to become.
Think about it. The car you drive will eventually break down. The house you live in will need repairs. People we love grow old. Jobs come and go. Even the strongest things in this world wear out over time. Change is not something that happens once in a while. It is a part of everyday life.
But Psalm 48 says something that stops us in our tracks. This God, the God who has shown up for His people again and again, is our God forever and ever. The psalmist is not just being poetic. He is stating a simple and powerful truth. God does not wear out. He does not change. He does not fade.
Everything around us has an expiration date. God does not. What He was yesterday, He is today. What He was to people thousands of years ago, He is to you right now.
The second part of the verse makes it even more personal. He will be our guide even unto death. Not just when life is going well. Not just when things are easy. All the way to the very end. When the road ahead looks unclear, when loss comes, when you feel like you are running out of strength, God does not step away. He stays. He leads. He guides.
We were not made to find lasting comfort in things that do not last. The unsettled feeling we get when life changes around us is a signal. It points us toward the One who never changes.
God is not asking you to pretend that hard things are not hard. He is simply reminding you that He is still there. He has not moved. He is still your God, and He is still leading you.
If life feels shaky today, you are not without solid ground. God has guided His people through every season of history, and He will guide you through yours. All the way to the end. What has felt most uncertain in your life lately? How does it change things to know that God is still steady, still present, and still leading you?
