Greater Love
Finding Christ’s Love on Valentine’s Day
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. — John 15:13
Valentine’s Day is a day when everyone seems to talk about love. For many, it is filled with joy, gladness, and gratitude for the love they are able to show to someone else. For others, it can be a day marked by sadness , a reminder of longing, the loss of love, or disappointments that have lingered over time.
Jesus offers us a deeper understanding of love. He points us not to romance or emotion, but to sacrifice. True love, as He defines it, is willing to give, to serve, and to remain faithful even when it costs something. This kind of love is not limited to one day or one type of relationship.
The love of Christ meets us wherever we find ourselves today. It is present whether life feels full or quiet, celebrated or overlooked. His love is not dependent on our circumstances, nor is it diminished by our disappointments. It is steady, personal, and enduring.
Valentine’s Day can remind us that love is not only about what we receive, but also about what we are invited to reflect. Christ’s love shapes how we care for others, how we forgive, and how we extend grace. It also reminds us that we are deeply loved, even in moments when love feels absent or complicated.
If today stirs mixed emotions, take heart. God’s love remains constant. It is a love that sees, sustains, and stays.
How might you receive Christ’s love today, and in what way can you reflect that love to someone else?
