A mind stayed on Him
Finding Peace by Fixing Our Minds on God
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. — Isaiah 26:3
Not long ago, I was speaking with someone who had something on their mind. People often talk about how I think outside the box. I try to consider alternatives and options, but this person was unable to do that. They simply continued to mention the same thing over and over.
It wasn’t because they weren’t intelligent or thoughtful. Their mind was fixed: anchored to one concern, one outcome, one uncertainty they could not move past. The issue itself wasn’t insignificant, but the way it occupied their thoughts left little room for rest or clarity.
Scripture speaks directly to moments like this. Isaiah tells us that perfect peace is not found in resolved circumstances, but in a mind that is stayed on the Lord. Peace does not come from controlling every possibility or understanding every outcome. It comes from trust, from choosing where we allow our thoughts to settle.
Trusting God does not mean ignoring what concerns us. It means refusing to let our worries become the center of our attention. When our minds remain fixed on fear, peace feels impossible. But when we intentionally turn our thoughts toward God, His character, His faithfulness, His promises, something begins to change within us.
Learning to trust is often less about daily discipline. It is the quiet practice of redirecting our thoughts. Returning again and again to the truth that God is present, attentive, and at work, even when we cannot see how things will unfold.
If your mind feels restless today, take courage. Peace is not out of reach. God promises to guard the heart that chooses to trust Him. As we learn to place our focus not on what we cannot control, but on the One who holds all things, peace begins to grow. What has your mind been fixed on lately? What would it look like to intentionally rest your thoughts in God today?
